Buttock Augmentation

Buttock augmentation, or Brazilian butt lift, is a procedure performed by our board-certified plastic surgeon Dr Ali Izadpanah in Montreal —to improve the contour and shape of the buttocks. It involves fat transfer and/or implants to improve shape and volume of your buttock. The goal is to improve the balance of your figure and silhouette.

How a Buttock Augmentation is Performed

Buttock augmentation is one of Dr Ali Izadpanah favorite operations. This is because it is the closest to true sculpting. Dr Ali Izadpanah will remove fat from the flanks and particular areas of the buttock via liposuction to improve the silhouette and figure. Next, he will take this fat and refine it for reinjection. It is then reinjected to give additional projection in the right places.

Who is a good buttock augmentation candidate?

If you are unhappy with the round has her general shape of your buttock and are healthy and have realistic expectations you are an excellent candidate for buttocks augmentation. It is important you’re a non-smoker. Buttock augmentation is popular in women who feel that their bum is flat, not shaped right, asymmetric or too small.

Does the fat that is re-injected last?

Typically we expect 60-80% of the graft to remain after the operation. Initially there is swelling that takes place in the early postoperative period. It typically takes 6 weeks for the swelling to go away and for you to see your final result. You can optimize how much fat actually stays by not sitting directly on the area for 6 weeks after the operation.

What are the risks of the buttock augmentation?

There are a few risks with buttock augmentation by fat transfer. Bruising can occur which typically resolves within 2 weeks. Risk of blood clots or fat clots is possible and in larger volume patients you may be placed on blood thinners after your operation. There is always some asymmetry preoperatively and there will likely be some postoperatively as well. Occasionally revision surgery is needed, especially if there is not enough fat available to transfer to achieve the results you are looking for.

What is the typical recovery after buttock augmentation?

The complete recovery is 6 weeks. Initially you will be sore and bruised. This resolves over the first few weeks. The small incisions or “ports” heal in over about a week. In order to give the reinjected fat the best chance of survival it is important to not sit on your buttocks directly. We help instruct you on how to sit without placing direct pressure on your buttock. It is also helpful to sleep on your sides. Ideally you should not be directly sitting on your buttock for 6 weeks. Garments help to smooth your result and improve your shape. These are typically worn over 6 weeks.
