After obtaining his Doctor of Medicine degree from Louisiana State University Medical School, Dr. Ali completed a General Surgery program at the Ochsner Foundation of New Orleans as well as an Otolaryngology program at Tulane University School of Medicine. He then pursued specialized training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at St. Joseph in Houston, studying under among the most skilled and lauded pioneers in the industry.

Dr. Ali’s Surgical Technique for Rhinoplasty

Depending on how complex the surgery is, your nose job in Houston may be performed using either a closed technique — where the incisions are hidden inside the nose — or an open procedure, where an incision is made across the narrow strip of tissue that is between the nostrils. The closed technique leaves no scars at all, while the open technique does leave a scar, but it’s virtually undetectable.

Through the incisions, Dr. Ali will re-shape the bone and cartilage in order to re-sculpt the appearance of the nose. He may alter the position of bones to make it look narrower or straighter, or he may build up some areas by using cartilage or bone from the nose or another area of the body. The skin and tissues are then re-shaped over this new nasal structure. Nose surgery can typically be completed in about 1 to 3 hours on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia.

What Nose Surgery can Correct

A weekend facelift is a rejuvenating procedure that can treat common facial concerns that may appear as a result of aging, such as:
  • An overly large or disproportionate nose
  • A nose that is too wide
  • A bump on the bridge of the nose
  • A large, bulbous, upturned, or drooping nasal tip
  • Excessively flared nostrils
  • A crooked or off-center nose
  • Asymmetry due to a previous injury
  • Breathing problems

What to Expect on the Day of your Rhinoplasty

On the day of your procedure, Dr. Ali will review the surgical plan with you again to ensure you are prepared and ready. When it is time to begin, you will be put under general anesthesia by a certified anesthesiologist. Rhinoplasty generally takes 1.5 to 3 hours, and once the surgery is complete, you will be moved to a recovery room until you awake.
When you wake up, your nose will be splinted and bandaged. You may have packing in your nose, or a drip pad taped below your nostrils to catch any small amount of blood that may appear on your first night post-rhinoplasty.

We will provide you with post-surgical care instructions ahead of time so that you will be fully prepared for your healing process, and we will be available to you at any time. You will be able to return home with a friend or family member once you’re awake and ready.

Rhinoplasty With Dr. Ali

Most patients can return to work in 7 to 10 days, resuming exercise in 3 to 4 weeks. To help stabilize and protect your nose during recovery, Dr. Ali may place splints on the outside and/or inside of your nose. These are typically removed in 5 to 7 days.

To help control bruising, swelling, and minor bleeding, the best rhinoplasty experts recommend spending the first day after surgery at home in bed with your head elevated.
Be sure to get up and walk around a bit during the day in order to keep your blood circulation going. This will help prevent blood clots. The majority of bruising will be gone in 1 to 2 weeks. For the first few days, you should continue to sleep with your head elevated and apply cold compresses to reduce swelling. Be sure to avoid lifting heavy objects or bending over for the first few weeks. This can increase nasal pressure. You will need to refrain from taking aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory drugs that can increase bleeding. In addition, for eight weeks following surgery, you should avoid hitting, blowing, or rubbing your nose. If you need to sneeze, do so through your mouth. Sun exposure should be limited for two months.

Rhinoplasty FAQ

  • What is septoplasty?
  • Is a nose job painful?
  • What other procedures can be combined with rhinoplasty?
  • How do you pick the right surgeon for your nose surgery?
  • At what age can i receive a nose job?

What is septoplasty?

If you experience breathing difficulties or loud snoring during sleep, you might be a candidate for a surgical procedure called septoplasty. This procedure addresses a condition known as a deviated septum, where the wall separating the nasal passages is misaligned, obstructing airflow and making breathing challenging. Doctor Ali can correct this issue in a one-hour septoplasty surgery. Additionally, septoplasty may be covered by insurance in some cases.

Is a nose job painful?

The level of discomfort from rhinoplasty varies depending on each patient's pain tolerance and the extent of the procedure. Any adjustments to the septum or within the nose typically cause some discomfort and congestion. Procedures involving the nasal bones can result in pain, external bruising, and swelling. Despite these factors, rhinoplasty remains one of the most popular and rewarding cosmetic surgeries. Most patients will need prescription medication to manage discomfort during the first week after the surgery.

What other procedures can be combined with rhinoplasty?

In certain instances, Doctor Ali might suggest a chin implant to further enhance facial profile and harmony. A chin implant can improve the appearance of a weak chin, providing a stronger and more defined contour.

How do you pick the right surgeon for your nose surgery?

When selecting the right surgeon for your rhinoplasty, it's important to focus on factors other than cost. Choose a surgeon with rigorous training and board certification. This ensures they have completed extensive exams, residencies, and fellowships, and have been vetted to meet the highest industry standards. Review the surgeon’s results by looking at before and after photos and reading testimonials. Meeting with the surgeon in person is crucial to ask questions and discuss their approach. Trusting someone with your face is significant, so address any discomfort during the consultation. You can schedule additional consultations until you feel fully confident. Never let a surgeon or anyone else rush you into making a decision.

At what age can i receive a nose job?

Before undergoing rhinoplasty, the nose must have completed its growth, which typically occurs around ages 15 or 16 for girls and 17 or 18 for boys. Teen patients must have parental consent, a clear understanding of the procedure and its risks, and a commitment to following the doctor's instructions both before and after surgery.

  • Are over the age of 15
