Revision Rhinoplasty in Montreal, QC

If you're unhappy with the results of a previous rhinoplasty, Doctor Ali performs revision rhinoplasty in Montreal to correct mistakes made by other surgeons.

Don’t Settle for Anything Less

In some cases, a rhinoplasty (nose surgery) has unsatisfactory cosmetic or functional result. In these cases, revision rhinoplasty can be performed to correct the shaping done during the first nose surgery. Dr. Ali is uniquely qualified to perform delicate revision rhinoplasty surgeries, as he has training in facial plastic surgery, reconstructive surgery, and otolaryngology (head and neck surgery).
Using his extensive training and experience, Dr. Ali helps his patients get a better appearance and/or function after an unsatisfactory first nose surgery. Having training in Louisiana and Texas has allowed Dr. Ali experience in almost every kind of nasal shape, and he prides himself on achieving patient-directed results. His three-dimentional imaging system provides powerful guidance and patient-doctor communication, and he will take time with you and your family to find the perfect nose for you.

Common Reasons for Revision Rhinoplasty

  • Patient is unhappy with the results from the first rhinoplasty
  • There is a residual hump, roundness in the tip (“polly beak”), or asymmetry
  • The nose did not heal properly from first rhinoplasty
  • The first rhinoplasty either caused breathing problems or did not fix them
  • Scar tissue has developed and caused problems
  • A nose injury damaged the original rhinoplasty results

What problems can be corrected?

Our Montreal revision rhinoplasty is able to correct the following problems after the patient’s original nose surgery:
  • Airway or functional obstruction
  • Lack of support
  • Nose doesn’t project from their face properly
  • “Polly beak” or saddle deformity
  • Asymmetry
  • Incomplete shaping
  • Nasal tip is oddly shaped, too wide, too narrow, or upturned
  • “Overdone” appearance
  • Nose deviates to one side
  • Low-hanging columella

Why it’s Important to Choose the Right Plastic Surgeon

Revision rhinoplasty is more complex than primary rhinoplasty and must be approached with an enhanced level of expertise and skill. This is because there are more elements to consider and deal with than primary rhinoplasty. These can include correction of the first surgeon’s mistakes; scar tissue, and sometimes less cartilage to work with. Besides all this, an eye for artistry is required in order to fix the problems while also delivering an attractive new nose.

Dr. Ali’s Surgical Technique for Revision Rhinoplasty

Like primary rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty is performed using either an open technique (in which the incisions are made across the columella) or a closed technique (in which incisions are made inside the nose).
If the patient only needs a minimal amount of shaping and contouring, a closed approach is usually used. For more extensive repairs or structural changes, an open approach will typically be used. In some cases, cartilage may be taken from the septum, ear, or rib to improve the support of the nose if too much cartilage was removed during the first rhinoplasty.

Is revision rhinoplasty ever covered by insurance?

Usually, cosmetic procedures are not covered by health insurance. However, some insurance plans will pay for part of rhinoplasty if the patient is experiencing breathing problems. We recommend that you contact your insurance provider to find out more about coverage for revision rhinoplasty

How soon will I be able to exercise after my revision rhinoplasty?

The truth is that there really is no average age to undergo a facelift. Every individual ages differently and will have different areas of concern. In general, those who are in their 40s, 50s, and 60s make the best candidates for a facelift. See Procedures by Decade

Before Surgery

To help you get the absolute best results and fastest recovery, Dr. Ali and his team will talk to you about what medications and supplements to avoid before surgery. it’s important to remain well hydrated, and if you’re a smoker, be sure to stop smoking at least six weeks before surgery.

Results

Early results can be seen when your splint is removed (if you have one); however, swelling will last for months. Small improvements will be noticed as your nose heals, but final outcome won’t become apparent until about 12 to 18 months after surgery.

Recovery

The recovery timeline for a revision rhinoplasty is usually similar to the first rhinoplasty (between 1 and 2 weeks). Patients will have swelling, bruising, soreness, and a feeling of congestion in and around the nose area. If cartilage was taken from a rib or ear, the patient will have additional recovery instructions.

You may also need to wear a splint over your nose. If so, it will be removed after one week. It’s important to keep your head elevated as much as possible, including during sleep. Avoid strenuous activities, as well as bending and lifting, during recovery.

Third and Fourth Rhinoplasty

While a revision rhinoplasty is also called a “secondary rhinoplasty”, some patients may need more than two revision surgeries. It is best to perform as few revision rhinoplasties as possible — since the nose needs cartilage to keep support and a natural appearance — but Dr. Ali will speak to each patient during their initial consultation about what options and techniques are available.
