Dr. Ali Izadpanah offers Chin Augmentation, or Mentoplasty, Chin Reduction, or Genioplasty, and Jaw Augmentation & Reduction to help bring balance to your face, correct the contour of your jaw line, and help boost your self-esteem and confidence.

Strong chins have long been associated with positions of power and attractiveness in the Western world. This standard of beauty is challenging for Montreal patients who fall short of the ideal. Chin surgery, is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery on the bone. A chin implant gives your chin more projection to balance with other facial features.

Both men and women with receding chins can benefit from getting chin implants. Montreal’s women round out their chins to balance with other facial features, while men can capture the square-jawed look masculine look.

Let Dr. Izadpanah bring the perfect balance to your face with a customized plan. Together, you and Dr. Izadpanah will determine the appropriate treatment to help you look your best and build your self-esteem.

Concerns

To improve a receding or weak chin and facial balance, Chin Augmentation surgery requires the placement of an implant in the front of the chin to make the chin stand out more prominently. Jaw implants are another option that help restore balance and symmetry to the face by adjusting the angles leading to the chin. They can create a stronger jawline or provide a more understated contour, and can also remedy a drooping neckline by tightening and raising the neck skin with the volume they add.

Conversely to correct an overly pronounced or jutting chin, Chin Reduction improves facial balance by reshaping the chin and/or mandible through the gentle shaving down of the bone.

The overall goal of Chin Surgery is to provide balance to your facial features giving your chin the most suitable projection and height. The proportions of the lower, mid, and upper face are taken in to consideration to create the optimum balance.

CHIN SURGERY CORRECTS THE FOLLOWING ISSUES:

  • Recessed or receding chin.
  • Weak jaw line.
  • Drooped neckline.
  • Facial imbalance or asymmetry.
  • Malformation of the lower part of the face.
  • Lost volume to due aging on the lower part of the face.

Solutions

Chin augmentation, or chin implants, can be performed to produce a more defined chin profile and distinct jaw line, which can dramatically improve a recessive chin or a rounded face and neck. Chin augmentation or chin implant can also be performed in conjunction with other facial procedures to accentuate the lower face and neck line. A chin implant is frequently combined with liposuction of the neck, facelift, necklift, and rhinoplasty procedures.

For Chin or Jaw Reduction the bone is shaved down with the incision placed underneath the chin so it’s minimally visible. Concluding surgery, you will be dressed with a fitted facial support garment or strap to reduce movement and help control swelling.

For Chin and Jaw Augmentation, the incisions are hidden as they are placed inside of the mouth in the lower gum of the lip. Dissolvable stitches are used to close the incisions.

After your consultation, Dr. Ali Izadpanah will decide on the most appropriate incision and type of chin implant to give you the results that you want with minimal scarring. Chin implants come in a variety of sizes and shapes to provide the right contour to patients seeking to enhance their profile. There are two schools of thought and choices for incision. They are:

Inside the mouth: More challenging to insert the chin implant and may not be possible if you require larger prosthetic. There is a slightly higher risk for infection but also no chance of visible scarring.

Under the chin in the natural crease: Easier to position the implant and less risk for infection. Very minimal scarring may be visible.

CHIN IMPLANT TECHNIQUES

  • Transoral Chin Implant (small incisions within mouth)
  • Submental Chin Implant (small incision beneath chin)

CHIN IMPLANT TYPES

  • Silicone Chin Implant.
Made of smooth, firm rubber, silicone implants give the chin or jaw a normal feel. With time, surrounding tissue grows around the implant to keep it in place. The implants come in various shapes and sizes to custom fit the unique needs of each patient.
  • Porous Polyethylene (Medpor) Chin Implant
Polyethylene implants are made up of small, microscopic tunnels, which allow the surrounding blood vessels and soft tissue to grow into the implant holding it in place. The implants come in various shapes and sizes to custom fit the unique needs of each patient.

Usually, you can return home the same day. Depending on the technique used by your surgeon, your recovery period will last about a week. During this time, you will need to wear a dressing. Bruising and swelling should go away after two weeks. You can do sports activities after six weeks.
